Claire Challen
Coach
Claire began her ski racing career in the Nancy Greene Ski League and a member of the Smithers Ski Club. As a member of Smithers Ski Club, BC Ski Team & Canadian Invitee Team, Claire travelled throughout North America & Europe to compete in European FIS, Europa Cup & World Cup events. A difficult decision had to be made at some point – to keep chasing the dream or to step away. Claire took the opportunity to race in the USA on the highly competitive NCAA Division I Circuit for 4 years while she pursued her education at the same time. Later lured back into the sport of ski racing...this time as a coach, she has since been Program Director/Head Coach of the Smithers Ski Club and Sun Peaks Alpine Club in BC. In addition to actively coaching racers, Claire provides clinics for recreational racers & skiers. In the off-season, she offers fitness training for racers and fitness enthusiasts as well as glacier skiing camps at Whistler BC & Mt Hood, Oregon.
Claire is a certified Canadian Ski Coaching Federation (CSCF) Level 3, Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance (CSIA) Level 3, and National Coaching Competency Program (NCCP) Level 3.
Claire has decided to take a step back from full-time coaching but will be actively working with the racers and club when time permits!
