ALPINE SKI HEAD COACH U14/U16/U18: DICK EASTMURE

Dick started the ski racing program at Mt. Sima in Witehorse, Yukon in 1994, where he coached for twenty years. In that time, he coached Yukon athletes at 4 Arctic Winter Games and 3 Canada Winter Games. Dick grew up skiing in Collingwood, Ontario and raced competively on the FIS circuit. He is a Level II coach and has his Level III Theory certification. He is actively working toward his Performance Level Coach certification.
Smithers has been his second home for a decade as he and his family spend the winters in their cabin on the mountain. Dick looks forward to sharing his passion for skiing and ski racing with Smithers athletes, coaches and families.

 

ALPINE SKI U12 CLAY COLLINGWOOD

Clay's formative and teenage years were spent ski racing at Hemlock and Whistler, B.C. He has loved to ski ever since. He began as a coach for U10 and quickly moved up the following year to work with the U12 group. A strong skier who is always working to improve his own technique, Clay's drive and passion to always be better is evident. He expects the same of his athletes and inspires them with his fun, encouraging coaching style. Clay is a Level I coach. Also an instructor at Luna's Fitness, Clay sets a solid example of the importance of physical fitness for his athletes.

SNOWBOARD HEAD COACH U12/U14/U16 ALPINE/SBX: WARREN PALI

2017/18 will be Warren's 5th season coaching with SSSC. He has been snowboarding for 20 years, sharing the love of the sport with his wife and two boys. Under Warren's direction, riders will focus on snowboard cross (SBX) and alpine events. A CSCP Certified Competition Introduction Coach, he also works with Canada Snowboard as a Learning Facilitator and Coach Evaluator in B.C.
Warren is the SSSC dryland training coach, where he works with both ski and snowboard athletes.
 

SNOWBOARD ASSISTANT COACH U12/U14/U16 ALPINE/SBX: COLE PALI

Cole began snowboarding at Hudson Bay Mountain as a member of the SSSC. He worked his way to a spot on the BC Snowboard Provincial SBX Team, racing at FIS level events across Canada. Cole has chosen to step away from high-level racing, focus on his education instead, but he is still racing as a member of the Smithers Secondary School Snowboard Race Team. Cole is ranked 3rd in the Province for highschool racing.
Cole is very excited to return to the SSSC to share his experinece and help with our snowboard athletes' skill development in SBX and alpine events.

SNOWBOARD COACH U12/U14/U16 SLOPESTYLE: LEVI PHILLIPS

SNOWBOARD ASSISTANT COACH U12/U14/U16 SLOPESTYLE: SARAH BELFORD

A former competitor, Sarah has competed in BC Snowboard Slopestyle events, the "Billabong Flaunt It" contests, Nationals and local rail jams. Her formative years were spent at Hudson Bay Mountain, whereafter she pursued her snowboard career at Silverstar Resort (Vernon, B.C.). After graduating high school, she moved to Whistler, where she rode for Howl Mitts, Ashbury Eyewear, The Circle Boardshop, Capita and Union and trained with  the Whistler Valley Snowboard Club. She trained in Colorado early season and travelled around BC and Alberta for contests. Though no longer oursuing a pro snowboarding career, Sarah enjoys riding freestyle in and out of parks and is looking forward to spend more time in the backcountry. She loves being able to give back to the next generation of snowboarders through coaching, especially when it comes to getting more girls riding and competing. Sarah is currently "In-Training" and working toward a Trained Coaching Certification.

 

SNOWBOARD U10 KATHY FRASER

After switching to snowboarding, Kathy never went back to skis. She has been coaching for 7 years and is a CSCP Trained Competition Introduction Coach. Kathy loves to ride as much as possible and spends each winter at HBM coaching and riding with family and friends.

MIke started snowboarding because of his love for snow, the outdoors and using gravity to his advantage! He has been snowboarding for more than half his life and moved into coaching our youngest snowboarders in 2015. Mike likes to work with the wee ones as he enjoys watching each successful step (and there are many at this stage!) and the happiness that each achievement brings. He is In-Training and working toward Trained status as a CSCP Competition Introduction Coach and is working toward his official certification.
